Rita is having a love affair with a married man who's wife has Alzheimer's disease. The Platts are trying to keep their marriage together despite Martin having had an affair and their daughter, Sarah Louise, who had a baby at the age of 14.
Roy and Hayley are helping look after baby Bethany and are considering adopting another child but Hayley is transsexual. Their 'marriage' ceremony was conducted by a female vicar in their own cafe. Mike married Linda only to find that she had been sleeping with his son.
