Ethel
had a terminal illness and wanted to die without unnecessary pain, whilst
she was still in control of her actions. She asks Dot, who is a committed
Christian (Catholic), to assist her suicide by collecting her morphine
tablets and putting all of them within her reach.

Dot is greatly troubled
and goes to see her local vicar. The vicar does not understand the full
details but essentially says that only God can decide when a life has been
fully lived and so when it should end. Dot tries to convince Ethel to let
nature take its course. In the end she gives in to Ethel and helps her to
die as she wishes (voluntary Euthanasia).

Dot is not able to cope with her
feelings when Ethel's will shows that she has left her all her money
(2,000). Dot goes to the local police station to confess the fact that
she helped Ethel to die. The police do not believe her and tell her to go
away!
