The information below sets out the examination questions from Edexcel covering the period from 2000 - 2002. Remember that in the exam each section has two sets of questions and YOU have to choose which set of questions you are going to answer - you can not mix and match! Below I have given both questions in a, b, c & d. You will hopefully get a feel from these as to the types of questions the examiners will ask you.

 

SECTION 3 � MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE

 3.  A.) The definition type question

What is pre-marital sex or what is a nuclear family?

State one religious feature in a Christian Wedding or what does adultery mean?

What is a divorce OR What does the word cohabitation mean?

 3. B.) Outline a particular situation/response/problem

The purpose of marriage in another religion other than Christianity OR How has attitudes to marriage changed in recent times?

Describe changing attitudes to cohabitation in Britain OR outline Christian attitudes to divorce.

2002

Outline teachings of a religion OTHER than Christianity on family life OR outline Christian attitudes to sex outside marriage.

 3. C.) Normally need to explain

Why do Christians have different attitudes to divorce OR why does being a member of a religion OTHER than Christianity help parents bring up their children?

2001

Explain how Christian parents may be helped by their religion to bring up their children OR explain why a religion OTHER than Christianity does not allow sex outside of marriage.

2002

How does the marriage service show the purposes of marriage for Christians OR explain why there are different attitudes to divorce in a religion OTHER than Christianity.

 3. D.) This is where you have to answer a statement looking at another point of view (religious) and
your own point of view. Always says after statement �Do you agree�

�Religious parents should send their children to a religious school� OR �People should only marry someone from their own religion.�

�You need a religious ceremony for a proper wedding� OR �Parents should not force their religion on their children.�

2002

�no religious person should ever have sex outside marriage� OR � Religion helps families to stay together.�
