How Christians Combat Evil
Home

Why is there evil and suffering

Christians try and help overcome suffering and evil in the world by their actions.
An example against evil (moral evil) is the Christian organisation ACAT (Action by Christians
against torture). Ways in which Christians try and combat suffering (natural evil)in the world are
through organisations such as Christian Aid and Cafod (Catholic Fund for Overseas
development).

Christians believe that we are made in the image of God - each person is a thinking, individual with feelings who should be able to live life free from fear. Being tortured takes this away and makes the torturer less than human.  Because they believe humans are all Gods children, torturing anyone is a crime against God as well as against humans. Jesus was tortured and crucified - he rose from the dead, which is a sign for Christians that God will not let evil conquer good (Act helps in the fight today). In the parable of the Goats Jesus told his followers that if anyone helped anyone in need they were really helping him. So by supporting prisoners they are showing their love for Jesus.

WHAT CAN CHRISTIANS DO?

Amnesty International does a lot of work around the world to help try and free prisoners who had been put in jail for political reasons. They are not a religious organisation, but check out their website to see how they try and help free people who have been wrongly persecuted.
